Filip Dewinter: “Antwerpse drugoverlast nefast voor imago van Antwerpen in het buitenland”
‘Europe Diplomatic Magazine’ publiceert vernietigend artikel over drugs in Antwerpen: ‘The city on the brink of becoming a Narco-State.’
Het gezaghebbende internationale diplomatieke tijdschrift ‘Europe Diplomatic Magazine’ publiceerde onlangs (nummer van april 2020) een voor Antwerpen vernietigend artikel. Onder de titel ‘The Port of Antwerp becoming Europe’s main entry point of entry of illegal drugs’ wordt een realistisch maar helaas allesbehalve positief beeld van onze stad geschetst. Volgens ‘Europe Diplomatic Magazine’ is de situatie ronduit dramatisch: ‘Antwerpen: the city on the brink of becoming a Narco-State’ luidt het.
‘Moreover this dramatic situation is eroding the local economy through the increase of violence. This unrestrained violence degrades local infrastructure and human capital which ultimately weighs heaviy on the local economy. Additionally, if it continues to increase, it will threaten the operational viability of the port of Antwerp – a key regional economical hub in Europe. This situation has been going on since serveral years but it seems as the lack of effective reaction from the local and national authorities has given the drug trafficking organisations an advantage that has enable them to increase their criminal activities.’
Filip Dewinter: “ ‘Europe Diplomatic Magazine’ wordt verstuurd naar zowat alle diplomaten, politici en leidinggevende personaliteiten in heel Europa en ver daarbuiten. De negatieve publiciteit en de impact op politici, diplomaten en zakelijke investeerders in Europa en daarbuiten kan en mag niet onderschat worden. De Antwerpse drugoorlog is immers bijzonder nefast voor het imago van Antwerpen in het buitenland. De kans dat investeerders in de Antwerpse haven afhakken omwille van de drugoorlog is meer dan reëel.”
Gemeenteraadslid Filip Dewinter zal op de eerstvolgende gemeenteraad burgemeester, Bart De Wever, hieromtrent en over het boek ‘drugs Antwerpen in de greep van de Nederlandse drugssyndicaten ‘ van Teun Voeten interpelleren.
